Taiwan's Evergreen to order up to 100 container ships in 2010;
Taipei, October 22, 2009 - Taiwan's evergreen Marine, the world's fourth biggest shipping firm, said thursday it would order up to 100 container ships next years as the global economy gradually recovers from the crisis.
"In accordance with the needs of evergreen Line's future business developments, the plan to buil new ships remains an ongoing agenda for the company," it said in a statement.
The statement came after evergreen group chairman chang Yung-fa-told Taipei based United daily news recently that the is likely to order 100 ships next year.
"Chang has said that when the price returns to a reasonable level, evergreen will move forward with building more container ships," company said.
Evergreen has not ordered any new ships over the past two years, but in his interview with the paper, Chang said 2010 may be a good time for investment as the global recession is coming to an end.
